My latest piece of work just being finished in my studio and the Ryman and Leader casting studio. It is an enlargement of the original bronze sculpture Icarus Rising VIII. It was constructed by making a specially designed metal armature to go on a turntable and then by adding clay onto it to make the actual form. This piece is being cast into bronze resin for bronze for an exhibition at Beaulieu Palace this summer.
The legend says that Icarus had his wings made by his father, Daedalus, and they flew away from captivity together. Icarus took no notice of his father’s warning and flew up too close to the sun so that his wings, attached by wax, melted and he fell to the sea.
