This outdoor bronze Icarus sculpture is smaller than the original bronze work made for the London Olympics in 2012. This sculpture is showing the boy Icarus about to leap into the unknown with wings able to support flight. His father, Daedalus the maze maker, created wings for them both so that they could fly to freedom.
I loved working on the wings and making the feathers look like real feathers. I also played with the balance of the figure so it looks unstable and barely able to stay upright as he has no choice but to fly. This artwork is suitable for gardens and exterior locations.
Each one of the limited edition is hand made and if not immediately available can be produced within a few months. Each one will be slightly different as is the nature of hand made sculpture. It is made in England.
It is one of an edition of 12 and can currently be seen at The Sculpture Park in Surrey and is available for sale.
